WARD councillors in Stanford-le-Hope are canvassing residents on their views about a prosed new bin which they hope will combat 'excessive litter and dog-fouling' on their patch.

Stanford West councillors Shane Hebb and Terry Piccolo have written to residents in the London Road and Caldwell Road area after officers recommended siting a new bin.

A TILBURY woman has taken to social media to highlight a shocking case of violence, unsavory peer pressure and appalling behavior by adults concerning her 13-year-old niece.

Police are now investigating the incident which saw the girl, a student at the Gateway Academy, 'take a beating' because she would not get involved in a fight.

POLICE investigation the circumstances surrounding an incident in Grays earlier in the week when a young woman was injured after a collision with a bus have asked if anyone has any footage of the incident or information.

She is currently recovering in a London hospital with facial injuries and three broken bones but is expected to make a full recovery. Her dad, well known local former firefighter Mike Jones, has thanked many wellwishers for their support.

Gravesend Pier.

THE coming half term break will see more runnings of the Uber Boat Clipper service from Gravesend and Tilbury to London – something that could soon become a regular service following a decision to sell the Gravesend Pier to Thames Clippers.

The boats will sail to and from Gravesend and Tilbury on Thursday 17 and Saturday 19 February. From Gravesend, the boat will take 40 minutes to reach Greenwich Peninsula (North Greenwich Pier), or 60 minutes to London Bridge (London Bridge City Pier).

Flood warning for fort area

FOLLOWING heavy rain this morning (Friday, 4 February), the Environment Agency has taken the precaution of issuing a number of flood warnings across south and east Essex – including low-lying areas around Coalhouse Fort near East Tilbury.

A flood warning has been released by the Environment Agency covering the coastal area around the historic Coalhouse Fort and surrounding marshland where flooding is expected on roads and footpaths in the area.

THURROCK Council has given details of the 53 projects it planned to spend monies given to it to improve borough communities – but which it has not yet spent. It amounts to a cash hoard approaching £17 million.

Under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 contributions can be sought from developers who apply for planning permission for projects towards the costs of providing community and social infrastructure, the need for which has arisen as a result of a new development taking place. This funding is commonly known as 'Section 106'.

TWO months after an original proposal was rejected by Thurrock Council planning officers for a new home development next to an existing Grays home, its owners have come back with a new scheme.

Plans were initially submitted to the council last year for changes at 1 Gravel Pit Cottages off Bridge Road which included a single storey rear extension to the existing residential dwelling and erection of a two storey, two bedroom dwelling.
